69-year-old among 14 charged with breaching Covid Regulations

Fourteen persons have been arrested by officers of the Major Operations Unit (MOU) for Breach of Covid-19 Regulations during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Northern Divisions on Tuesday.

Based on information received and surveillance conducted during the hours of 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, officers proceeded to two restaurants, one in Tacarigua and one in El Dorado.

They also visited a bar in Tacarigua.

Twenty-five cases of alcoholic beverages and a quantity of cash used for illegal gaming were seized.

Fourteen people were arrested.

They are:

  • Dexter Naipaul, 36
  • Johnson Nicholason, 49
  • Aziz Shah, 63
  • Jing Feng Ye, 41
  • Wayne Jordan, 55
  • Avalon Kalloo, 52
  • Randell Forster, 19
  • Xan Wen Li, 28
  • Ginnele Peters, 32
  • Bhanoomanie Bhajan Hamza, 37
  • Kary Sambrano, 25
  • Xiao Lian, 30

Police say three of those arrested were also charged for operating an illegal gaming house, and one person has been charged for selling intoxicating liquor without a License.

Nine of the accused are expected to appear in the Arima Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday, and the other five will appear at the Tunapuna Magistrate’s Court.
