6-year-old boy hospitalised following home invasion shooting

A six-year-old boy remains warded at hospital, after he was shot during a home invasion in Morvant on Tuesday.

Police were told that the youngster and a 41-year-old man were staying at a friend’s house in Morvant for the night, when around 1.45 am Tuesday the occupants of the house were awoken by a loud noise.

On investigating, the older man saw a masked man in the house armed with a firearm and attempted to fight the intruder. However, during the tussle, the gun went off and the was shot in the right foot. The suspect fired another shot at the older man, but he missed, and instead hit the 6-year-old, who had just run out of a bedroom.

The child was shot in the left foot.
Both victims were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. However, the 41-year-old was discharged.
