5 arrested – marijuana seized and stolen items recovered in North Eastern Division

Five men were arrested, a quantity of marijuana seized and stolen items recovered during anti-crime exercises in the North Eastern Division yesterday.

Officers of the Task Force acting on information relative to a report of Shop Breaking and Larceny, proceeded to an abandoned building located at 8th Avenue North, Barataria, where a search was conducted.

During the search, one green coloured suitcase along with one white coloured crocus bag containing an assortment of cigarettes and snacks and two mobile phones were found and seized.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the finds.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Smith and members of the Barataria Police Station conducted anti-crime exercises with focus at Williams Street, Jo Jo Lane, Maraj Street, Dookie Trace and Mt. Lambert Circular.

Based on intelligence received, the officers proceeded to Mt. Lambert in the vicinity of the Mt. Lambert RC School and conducted a search on three persons who were approximately 500 metres away from the school.

The suspects, a 25-year-old man of Mt Hope Road was found with 2.5 grams of marijuana, a 26-year-old man of Mt Lambert with 11.5 grams of Marijuana and a 24-year-old man with 2.5 grams of marijuana. They were all arrested and charged for Possession of Marijuana for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Investigations are ongoing.
