411 Million Dollars To Be Spent On Infrastucture On 42 Schools

Government has spent 175 million dollars so far to carry out infrastructure works on 27 secondary schools since 2021.

An additional 236 million dollars will be spent to do similar work on 15 more schools.

This will bring the total cost to 411 million dollars on 42 schools.

Minister of Education, Dr Nyan Gadbsy Dolly, said the measure is being taken to ensure improvement to the nation’s schools where it is needed.

The minister said there are over 53 public schools that are over 100 years.

Speaking at a news briefing held at the Education Towers, St Vincent Street, Port of Spain on Thursday, it was indicated from 2021 to present, 600 million dollars have been spent to carry out emergency repairs on schools in areas such as sewer, plumbing, electrical problems and falling wall.

An additional 300 million dollars is being allocated for this area and there is a unit in place to monitor developments which may arise.

Over 1 billion dollars has been spent in school infrastructure and repair between 2021 to present.
