A 38 year old Tobago prison officer has been arrested in connection with the theft of over $20,000 in warrant payments at the Tobago Prison on Young Street, Scarborough. The allegations of the theft by the officer are in relation to an audit conducted in June 2024 which revealed discrepancies in the prison’s financial records, particularly in the Warrant Department. The investigation that between October 2023 and January 2024, a sum of $26,498 that was meant to be deposited at the Treasury was missing. The money was payments on outstanding affiliation warrants. Police arrested the Prison Officer on Saturday in connection with the missing funds.
The officer, who is now on suspension lives at Riseland Trace, Carnbee, remains under investigation as inquiries continue.
