$33k seized and illegal gambling machines found in Mini Marts

Operation Inchbrook II- $33k Seized, Illegal Gambling Machines Quarantined, Multiple Safety Breaches Detected

Police officers attached to the Multi-Agency Task Force employed an ‘All-of-Government’ approach by collaborating with multiple government law enforcement agencies during Operation Inchbrook II.

The exercise, conducted on Wednesday 23rd November in the Northern Division saw the team proceeding to various supermarkets, bars and mini-marts, where they encountered multiple breaches and infractions of various laws, codes and standards.

In one incident, the team proceeded to a bar and mini mart located at Broadway Street, Arima, where upon inspection, they observed that illegal gambling, namely illicit ‘Play Whe’ was being conducted. The team also observed patrons actively participating at the roulette machines.

Police then seized one cash register which was adapted for the use of Play Whe and $33,972 TT, $100 USD, along with Play Whe charts and a quantity of cigarettes not authorized for local sale.

Meanwhile the contingent from the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of standards outlined that the Station Roulette, Station Electronic Roulette, Wall Mount Slot Machines and Standing Slot Machines were all non-conforming and were quarantined at the premises. The Electrical Inspectorate detected ten breaches of the Electricity (inspections) Act 54:72, the Occupational Safety and Health Authority documented seven breaches of the OSHA Act 88.08, while the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service detected two breaches against the Fire Services Act Ch. 35:50.

During another exercise at a business place located at Queen’s Street, Arima, the Electrical Inspectorate detected 11 breaches contrary to Electricity (inspections) Act. 54:72. The Occupational Safety and Health Authority documented 15 breaches of OSHA Act 88.08, the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service detected two breaches contrary to Fire Services Act Ch. 35:50 and the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards detected one breach contrary to the Standards Act 82:03.

The operation included members of staff attached to the Customs and Excise Division, Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, Government Electrical Inspectorate, Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards, Chemistry, Food and Drug Division, Occupational Safety and Health Authority, Tobacco Control Unit, National Lotteries Control Board, Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
