2 wounded in Malabar shooting

Investigations are ongoing into a shooting in Malabar yesterday (Thursday 6th June, 2024), which left two men nursing gunshot wounds.

The victims were identified as 21-year-old Jabari Maloney of #51 La Croix Avenue, Malabar, Arima and 30-year-old Alian Weekes, of Trainline Road, Malabar, Arima.

Around 12:25am, first responders were on exercise duty, when they received a report of a shooting near Pro Sports Bar.

When they arrived at the scene, they met Maloney who informed them that he was standing along Malabar Extension Road, opposite the Bar, when he observed an armed man approaching him.

Maloney told police he became fearful for his life and began running when he heard several loud explosions.

Shortly after, he felt a burning sensation to his buttocks and ran north along La Croix Trace into Joseph Avenue.

The suspect then entered a dark-colored Toyota Aqua and fled the scene and the victim notified the police.

Weekes who was seated on a bench outside the bar at the time of the shooting also sustained gunshot injuries and ran a short distance away before collapsing near H&N Hardware.

The responding officers subsequently took Maloney and Weekes to the Arima Health Facility where they received medical treatment.

Police retrieved six spent (6) 9mm ammunition casing at the scene.
