2 women perish in Cunupia fire

Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of a fire in Cunupia, which claimed the life of a mother and her daughter-in-law.

The victims are Angela Ali, aged 54, and Ambika Ali, 30.

Richard Daniel of Persad Avenue, Mon Plasir Road, told police he heard screams emanating from the house of his neighbour Nizam Ali around 11am and then saw the western side of the house on fire.

Daniel alerted other neighbors and ran across to the home where he met Jeremy Ali, 29, who indicated to him that his mother Angela and his wife Ambika, where trapped in the house.

Jeremy Ali was safely extracted from the home but the neighbors were unable to get to his mother and wife.

Fire fighters from the Chaguanas Fire Station put out the blaze, and then found the charred remains of Angela and Amrika Ali within the gallery of the northern side of the house.
