2 TT athletes test positive for COVID-19 in Tokyo

Two T&T athletes have both tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be able to participate in their respective events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games tomorrow.

They are long jumper, Andwuelle Wright and hurdler, Sparkle Ann McKnight.

According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC), the two, along with coach Wendell Williams, received positive test results following daily routine saliva antigen tests at the Olympic Village.

Wright was scheduled to compete in the Men’s Long Jump while McKnight was due to run in the Women’s 400m hurdles event.

The three members are now in quarantine at the approved isolation hotel facility for foreign athletes and officials.

The 50 Team TTO members currently in Tokyo are tested daily and are required to comply with the stringent TOKYO2020 Playbook countermeasures instituted by the Japan Government, The Tokyo Metropolitan Government, TOKYO2020 Organising Committee and the IOC.
