2 men killed in separate incidents in Arouca and Arima

Two men were gunned down in separate incidents on Sunday night.

The first shooting took place around 10.15 pm in Arouca.
Jamari Wharwood, 24, of Bon Air, Arouca, was walking from 7th Avenue to his home on 6th Avenue, Phase 1, when a silver Nissan B14 vehicle pulled up alongside him and one of its occupants pointed a gun and opened fire on him. The suspects then drove off.

Wharwood was taken to the Arima Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police recovered 11 spent 9mm shells at the scene.

Later, at 11:50 pm, 26-year-old Steve Deverteuil was killed at Boys Lane, Pinto Road.

Reports are that Deverteuil was liming outside his front door with another man when several gunshots rang out.

Deverteuil was later found lying on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds about his body. He died at the scene.

The scene was processed by Port of Spain CSI personnel and one live 9mm round, six spent 9mm shells, four 7.62 spent shells and three deformed projectiles were recovered.
