2 men detained, one wounded following robbery and police shoot-out

Police held two men and wounded another during a shoot-out following a robbery in Curepe Junction on Tuesday.

A search is being carried out for a fourth suspect who escaped after crashing the getaway car.

According to reports, three suspects entered a grocery along the Southern Main Road near Bobby’s Bar around 1:15 pm and announced a robbery.

One suspect held a firearm pointed at the cashier, while the other two suspects allegedly moved through the aisles, taking food items, as well as cigarettes and alcohol.

The armed bandit later emptied the register of an undisclosed amount of cash before joining his accomplices as they ran to the waiting car.

Officers of the North Central Division Task Force and the St Joseph CID were alerted and they were able to locate the getaway car within minutes of the robbery.

They pursued the men along the Eastern Main Road, Mt Hope in a high-speed chase which ended at Hutton Road.

A shoot-out reportedly occurred between lawmen and the suspects and one man was injured.

Two others were eventually held by police officers in the Mt Hope area, but the driver managed to escape.

The suspects in custody—whose ages ranged from early to mid-20s—were said to be from the St Joseph and Arima areas.

The injured suspect was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope where he was treated and then warded under police guard.
