2 in hospital following shootout with police

Two men are nursing gunshot wounds after a shootout with police in Arima on Thursday.

Reports indicate that officers received information around midday that three men wanted in connection with a robbery in Cunupia was spotted in the area.

The officers proceeded to Fifth Street, Peytonville, where they saw a vehicle which matched the description of the car described.

Police alleged that four men exited the vehicle but one was armed with a gun.

The armed man fired at the police officers who returned fire.

When the smoke cleared, two of the men were found bleeding from gunshot wounds.

They were taken to the Arima Hospital for treatment.

Officers searched the area and found the third suspect, a 25-year-old man hiding in an abandoned building along Savannah Drive.

Officers searched him and doing one Glock 19 pistol with a selector, and extended magazine with ammunition was seized from him.

Officers also found a bag with TTD $4,900 and another bag containing tie straps and duct tape which was seized.

The fourth suspect is still at large.

Police are continuing investigations.
