$19M worth of marijuana destroyed in Santa Cruz

Officers of the North Eastern Division seized and destroyed a large quantity of marijuana during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the district today, Wednesday 10th February 2021.
The exercise was spearheaded by Senior Supt Winston Maharaj, Supt. Roger Alexander, ASP Beharry, Inspector Bharath and supervised by Sgt. Mitchell and the Special Investigations Unit. Members of the Air Support Unit lead by Sgt. Rampallard also provided assistance as well as officers of the North Eastern Division Gang Unit.
Based on information received, the officers proceeded to a forested area in Petit Curacaye, Lower Santa Cruz, and conducted a search, in an acre of land.
During the search, they found three marijuana fields with 1,284 fully grown marijuana trees and 182 Kilograms of marijuana.
The street value of the marijuana has been estimated at $19 million.
Eight rounds of a 12 gauge shotgun were also found.
The marijuana was subsequently destroyed.
