Nineteen Venezuelans have been saved from deportation…at least for now.
On Saturday, High Court judge, justice Avason Quinlan-Williams stayed an order of the deportation of 19 Venezuelan immigrants, who were among a larger group awaiting deportation.
They had illegally entered the country throughout September, October and November.
Quinlan-Williams quashed the order of deportation pending their applications with the Living Water Community for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) for asylum-seeker status.
The group was also given permission to file a claim for judicial review and seek immediate relief.
The ruling to stay the order of deportation for these 19 came just as 160 Venezuelans were deported on Saturday.
