A 32-year-old Preysal lorry man was granted $150,000 bail with a surety, after being charged with six counts of sexual touching and one count of sexual penetration of a 12-year-old girl.
The accused appeared before Couva Magistrate, Alexander Prince on December 2nd.
He is scheduled to reappear on December 30th.
As part of his bail conditions the man was ordered to stay 100 metres away from the girl. He must also report to the Couva Police Station weekly.
The charges stem from a report that the man sexually touched a girl on October 22nd and 23rd. According to the report on October 23rd, a man allegedly sexually penetrated the girl. The standard five pupil escaped the situation and ran to the safety of a neighbour. A report was made to the Couva Police Station and forwarded to the Child Protection Unit (CPU) Central Division who acted on the information.
The charges were laid on December 1st by CPU officer PC Rohan and the investigation was supervised by W/Supt. (Ag.) Guy-Alleyne, ASP (Ag.) Roberts, Insp. (Ag.) Charles, W/Sgt. (Ag.) Hospedales and Sgt. Jairam.
