Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says the gas deal signed with energy company Shell today is valued at an estimated US 1.8 billion dollars.
The deal will see Shell develop the Manatee gas field which was previously part of the Loran/Manatee field, a cross border gas reserve shared with Venezuela.
However, Dr Rowley was able to convince the Venezuelan Government to de-link the field so that T&T could be allowed to sign development deals such as the one signed with Shell.
Dr Rowley added that the country is set to benefit financially within weeks after the signing of the 25 year long deal.
