12-year-old girl shot in Diego Martin attack facing possible paralysis

The 12-year-old girl who was shot by a gunman as he aimed at her father on Wednesday night in Bagatelle, Diego Martin may never walk again.

According to a GML report, medical personnel warned that the Standard Five pupil could be facing possible paralysis as the two bullets had punctured her lungs and shattered major internal bones before being lodged near the spinal cord.

The family is hopeful the young girl, who loves music and dance, will once again be able to indulge in her favourite hobbies.

But a relative said while the child is now conscious and coherent, “She has damaged lungs.

The 12-year-old girl now faces several surgeries.

Police said the family was not known to be involved in any illegal activities or had been in any altercation with anyone from the community, or affiliated with any gangs.
