In response to the recent violent crimes linked to gang activity, police conducted an intelligence-led anti-crime operation within the Port of Spain Division, resulting in the arrest of 12 suspects and the seizure of illegal items.
On Wednesday 21st August, 2024, officers led an operational anti-gang exercise within the Beetham Gardens area. During the operation, 13 warrants were executed, leading to the arrest of 12 individuals for various offences.
The offences include:
– Six arrests for gang-related offences
– Four arrests for Possession of Firearm and Ammunition
– One arrest for Possession of Cocaine
– One arrest for Possession of Marijuana
The operation also resulted in the seizure of illegal items, including:
– 20 grammes of cocaine
– 504 grammes of marijuana
– 19 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition
– One .45 pistol magazine, and
– One 9-mm pistol magazine
The TTPS said it will continue to execute strategic operations and exercises throughout all policing divisions, aimed at dismantling underworld criminal organizations and bring perpetrators to justice.
They said the safety and security of our communities remain our highest priority, and we urge the public to support our efforts by providing any information that could assist in the ongoing fight against gang activity and crime.
This operation was spearheaded by Assistant Commissioner of Police Neil Brandon -John, coordinated by Senior Superintendent Thom, and supervised by Insp Benjamin, Sgt Guerra, Sgt Ag Sookhoo, and Sgt Ag St. Bernard. The exercise involved officers from the Port of Spain Task Force (POSTF), supported by Charge Room personnel, the Canine Unit, the Inter-Agency Operations Unit (IOU), and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI).
