1,053 cases of Dengue now reported; 11 deaths

According to the Health Ministry, there are now 1,053 lab confirmed cases of the virus and 11 lab confirmed deaths.

Notices also continue to be served to property owners as the number of Dengue cases in T&T increases.

As at August 30th 2024, a total of 833 yellow fever notices have been issued to property owners/occupiers, directing them to clean up their surroundings.

Of these, the Ministry says 26 have so far been identified for the consideration/institution of legal proceedings for non-compliance.

Persons are reminded that Dengue Fever may be spread by the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Symptoms appear within 5-6 days of being bitten, last for 1-2 weeks and can include:

-Fever
-Headaches (sometimes severe)
-Pain behind eyes
-Muscle and joint pains
-Skin rash
-Nausea/Vomiting
-Diarrhoea

Persons with symptoms are urged to seek medical attention.

The Ministry adds that persons with symptoms should not use aspirin, motrin, cataflam, olfen or ibuprofen, as these can cause bleeding which leads to shock.

They are instead advised to use paracetamol, acetaminophen (Panadol/Tylenol) or medicines prescribed by a doctor.
